Tendring District Council is exploring the potential to bring Martello Tower E—an iconic 200-year-old coastal defence structure on Clacton’s seafront—back into regular public use.
In partnership with renowned conservation specialists Caroe Architects, whose portfolio includes work on St Paul’s Cathedral, the council is assessing the urgent repairs needed to preserve and futureproof the tower.
Experts are also investigating viable long-term uses for the site that will allow both residents and visitors to experience the tower in new and engaging ways.
Ultimately, the ambition is to lease the tower to a suitable commercial tenant, ensuring its sustainable use while celebrating its unique heritage.
