Clacton police officers tackling theft and anti-social behaviour

Officers tackling ongoing issues in Clacton including anti-social behaviour and theft have made arrests and secured a number of charges.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has been investigating incidents of theft carried out between March and June this year and involved the loss of thousands of pounds worth of stock.

NPT officers have built their investigations into each offence, identifying a suspect and making an arrest on Wednesday 11 June.

Your NPT is also determined to tackle issues associated with street drinking.

They’re working hard to enforce a Public Space Protection Order, which covers Clacton town centre.

This order was implemented to help combat anti-social behaviour in the town.

On Monday 2 June, officers on patrol in the town directed a man to leave the area of Christmas tree island after reports of drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Later that same day, officers on patrol in Jackson Road again directed the same man to leave the area after he was seen to be consuming alcohol in the street.

Sergeant Wendy Crowson, of Clacton NPT, said: ““We’re listening to our businesses across Clacton and, where theft is identified, we’re working to make arrests and limit the activity of repeat offenders.”

“Clacton town centre should be a safe place for residents and tourists to visit without witnessing or experiencing this type of behaviour.”

“We also receive complaints relating to disorder arising out of street drinking.
“This kind of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and we’re keenly aware that such behaviour can often fuel wider crime.”
