A wide reaching programme to support active journeys and improve play and green spaces
A multi-faceted initiative to promote active lifestyles, improved connectivity and encourage cycling/walking based visitors through the promotion of opportunities in what is a naturally flat landscape. PiP funding could cover one or more of the initiatives listed below, according to the best fit within the 4 year period:
– Active school journeys: Developing whole-system approaches to increase physical activity among children and families through active school journeys, redesigned green spaces, and community outdoor activities. Building on successful programmes like Beat the Street or expanding the Essex Pedal Power initiative to young people, including those not in education, employment, or training (NEETs).
– LCWIP: Advancing feasibility studies for active travel routes identified in Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIP) to improve town-wide connectivity.
– Leisure Centre active sports path: Delivering the identified opportunity of a new dedicated path/track connecting the Leisure Centre to the Rugby Club across the shared Vista Road Recreation ground.
