Improvements to approx. 32 bus stops

This project is designed to make Jaywick and Clacton more connected and to improve sustainable travel opportunities for residents to access key services, employment, and training opportunities. It will deliver bus stop improvements to approximately 32 bus stops, including provision of 5 new shelters, 16 sets of raised kerbs and other safety improvements, as well as 24 updated flags at bus stops. The project is funded as part of the wider Community Regeneration Partnership in place between central Government and Tendring District Council, with £0.23m allocated to this project
The aim is to deliver safe and accessible bus stops that provide a better customer experience for residents and deliver more attractive and up to date infrastructure giving the town a better look and feel. The project is being led by Essex County Council and decisions to prioritise stops will be made based on footfall and bus rates within the town centre.
Clacton and Jaywick bus stop plan
Provisionally 32 stops have been identified as part of the project, which will be split into three phases of work, dependent on contractor requirements. Initial work will be undertaken by Ringway Jacobs to determine civil works scope, then ClearChannel will be commissioned for phase two, to design the 5 shelters identified for installation. The final phase will procure flags and poles via the existing ECC contractor.
The infrastructure improvements are due to be delivered by March 2026 and are part of a larger programme of works in Clacton, supporting more accessible and improved sustainable travel options.
The potential stops identified can be found on the interactive map, however please note that not all works identified are guaranteed to be delivered due to funding availability. Stops will be prioritised based on footfall and bus rates.
